Cylinder on compressor smoking

Post by HammerDownJustin »

I have always had small junk compressors till now. The breathers were extremely dirty. So I took them off and washed the filter part out real good. I was told to put a little air tool oil on the foam and squeeze it before putting back in the box. Drained all the water from the tank and cleaned the water separator also. Then cranked it back up and about 8 minutes in one cylinder had a little smoke coming off. Wondering if anyone has had this happen? Maybe a little to much oil on the filter and pulled in and burned off? Batteries were dead in the temp gun or would have shot a temp on both cylinders to compare.
Any ideas? Thank you

60 gallon compressor with a 11 cfm at 90 psi..not sure how long should take to fill all the way up from zero. Hit 140 psi in about 10 minutes.

New batteries for your temp gun? May help diagnose and batteries are cheap,

Yep found out I have a dead cylinder and it isnt hitting enough pressure to shut off. So that is why the cylinder started overheating. So basically turning compressor on and off to cut right now and ordering a rebuild kit this week.
