Help PM 85 Part question

Post by grindergary »

I have a powermax 85 that was working good yesterday.
I fired up today and of coarse being a holiday and on a rush job, problems. :o

When I start to cut, it cuts about 6 inches and shuts down on low air pressure. I opened the unit because I can hear air leaking from inside. There is a air transducer about 2 inches past the solenoid inside that is blowing air out. There is a tapped hole that the air is coming from.

I contacted Hypertherm support and they could not tell if there is a plug supposed to be in there.

Can anyone have a look at a machine and let me know if there is a plug in there.

Thanks for any help.

Got it figured out. It is to bleed off pressure to the transducer.

Now I know what the real problem is. The guy that set up my filters never put an oil filter in and everything is full of thick ugly oil.

Any suggestions on how to clean this up.
Now, off to buy the bet filter for oil I can get. Enough of the crap.

Thanks

I would suggest talking again with Hypertherm tech service, tell them about the oil and ask them for cleaning advice.

I would also suggest that you thoroughly check out your air source...if you have it connected to an oiled line (which is for air tools that require oil in the air) then you need to tap into the air circuit elsewhere. Putting an oil filter on an oiled line will simply delay the issue.

Thanks for the reply Jim,

I installed a new filter for water (descant) and another for oil and water.

I called teck support again and he explained how to purge the lines in the plasma. He suggested to use a bottle of Nitrogen and regulate it to 120 psi and purge the bottle thru the system. Will get a bottle tomorrow.

I have a feeling this was from when they said they put the proper filters in place and it had been building up. This is a dedicated compressor and no oilers are installed. I think I have solved the problem now and will keep an eye on it.

Just a note, the descant filter seemed to have lots of oil and water in them when I drained them every morning. The regulator and filter after that seemed ok. There never seemed to be anything in the filter with the auto drain.

After having another descant filter and water oil filter installed seems to have solved the problem. Can't see any water or oil in the torch.

Thanks for your help.
