Great tutorials David. I don't have a plasmacam or designedge so your inkscape tutorial was perfect for me and I learned a lot. Much appreciated!

Hi Guy - here are a few of the slides from my Inkscape slide show as viewed on my computer. This is what I see looking at the slide show images.4130metalworks wrote: Fri Nov 22, 2024 5:39 am Thank you for all your help david, i’ll get onto that screenshot of using emachineshop contour

I have created and shared many different slide shows pertaining to Inkscape, Fusion 360, Design Edge, etc. and have never had anyone mention that the images were blurry. Perhaps take a screen shot of what you see on you monitor and post it here so I can better understand what you are seeing.
I have posted all of these same images in the Inkscape section at the link below.
https://plasmaspider.com/viewtopic.php?p=242299#p242299
When they are posted at this site you can click on them to zoom in. Maybe that will help you to see them better.

Re: house
Guy - here are several other folders from my Google drive. I saved these in a similar manner to the Inkscape slide show you are having trouble seeing. Maybe you can check these out to see if you have better luck, so we will know if it is just that one slide show or others as well.

Re: house
Thanks David, the issue is with my home computer. They show up perfectly with the work laptop
Just seems to be that one computer and google docs, the individual slides are perfect
I’ll get onto the contour slides in the morning, work hasn’t been allowing any spare time lately
I appreciate all your help, and you made it a much more enjoyable project

Re: house
Guy - I have created some step-by-step screen shots showing how to use Inkscape to disassemble the original Etsy file and add your custom features.

Re: house
Here is a good example to show why you possibly ended up with so many nodes. In general - dxf files have more nodes than svg files. If you save a file from Inkscape as dxf and open it with another program, and then save it from that other program as dxf and import it back into Inkscape - you will find that your total node count has increased significantly.
I don't know if you went back and forth between eMachineShop and Inkscape several times, but if you did than that may have caused the problem with the extremely high node count.

Re: house
yes that would be why i ended up with so many extras, some parts i got frustrated in inkscape and quickly reverted back to emachineshop because i knew how to use that software better

Re: house
first part of using contour on text in emachineshop is to ungroup all the letters. Next select one part to enlarge or shrink and go line, contour.

Re: house
it works very well on text that's simple. Once contour is done remove the unwanted parts and tap across the parts to maintain spacing. On more complex text there will be clean up on or alterations as some areas won't have enough kerf width

Re: house
on more complex shapes such as this "b" i needed to contour multiple times in small increments to maintain the sharp edges. Delete any unwanted parts when done

Re: house
if keeping the sharp edges isn't a priority click the box for round corners and its possible to make the text bigger as needed. Contour can be used for multiple other things
its handy for making backing plates or 3d plasma cut parts

another way of doing it
select line and go scale. There you can enlarge or shrink by a percentage, either proportionately or not by ticking the box. Scaling the parts with different percentages vertical to horizontal usually does need manual clean up

Re: house
Guy - Thanks for those screen shots. I was trying to figure out how you were able to get those sharp (square) corners. Now I see that the eMachineShop version I am using does not offer the Contour option for round or square corners - it only does the round corners. Inkscape can do a similar contour offset using the Outset tool - but it sometimes puts round corners on some of the corners which would need editing to achieve the same result you show using your newer paid version of eMachineShop desktop program.
