Vinyl cutters

I went with a Silhouette Cameo 3 for now. Under $200, gets me going, not a huge learning curve, and should be easy to sell later, if I so choose. I've come to the conclusion that if business warrants a larger cutter, I'll pony up the $ for a nicer servo unit.

What are tha main differences between the small units like the Cricut and Silhouette Cameo machines, and the larger US Cutter type machines besides the obvious size capacity differences? also, can you use Corel for both of them?

You can use Corel to get a vector design ready to cut with either of them. The main difference is quality and durability. One is made for hobby use and the other for production. I think the Cricut uses an online program to control it also while the commercial machines usually come with a piece of local software such as VinylmasterCUT.

We were lucky enough to get a 24" Roland cutter through a grant last year. I'm assuming the less expensive units are similar, but the thing I like about it is that we cut from a print driver, so we print straight from our CAD software. Our graphics design teacher wanted to do a joint project, so we were able to cut straight from Illustrator as well. I haven't tried, but I'm told we could cut from Word even.

Well I'm planning on ordering a 28" US Cutter SC2 in the morning.(420.00) Along with a 12 different rolls of 24" X 10 yard vinyl (21.66 each) and a 12" by 100 yard roll of medium transfer tape (48 bucks)

Anyone know of a good vinyl cutter forum?

Well, I did it. I hesitated to even post this since this tool is actually not even in my shop, but is in my sunroom inside the house... where it's (relatively) clean.
But, this tool will help me add to my plasma cut signs and stuff, so I figured I'd post it up.

It's a US Cutter 28" SC2 vinyl cutter. I'm having fun with it so far!
