Champion 2 stage, 80 gallon air compressor
I recently purchased a Champion air compressor without the motor and would like to get it in working condition.
What I need is the horsepower needed, the pulley diameter, and the RPM's of the motor.
The serial # is 175124, Model TUV55-80, The tank is stamped 1966 as a build year I believe.
It is old and might still have hope
I contacted Gardner Denver and all they could help with was a business for service work.
If anyone has one similar or any knowledge of these it will be greatly appreciated

Re: Champion 2 stage, 80 gallon air compressor
I have spend the biggest part of my 60 years around air compressors and would not use a 49 year old compressor that I knew nothing about. I personally know what they can do. Come look at the rear wall in my shop and that compressor was only 20 years old and had been inspected yearly by the state of NC. I know some people believe a compressor will not explode but will start to leak instead, WELL I know better. Thank God mine was outside and no one was hurt, just my building. Some manufactures say there tanks should be replaced after 20 years. I know a lot of people use them longer but they probably keep them drained and serviced as they should. Re: Champion 2 stage, 80 gallon air compressor
Thank you for the responses and the info on the tank. I will not be using the tank, but my question hasn't been answered about the horsepower , rpm's or pulley size.
They don't make the compressors like this anymore and I need to know if the compressor is in working order or not.
The tank will also make a good lawn roller.

Re: Champion 2 stage, 80 gallon air compressor
Is there any model number or identification on the pump itself. There is a current model that has a2 stage pump that runs off a5hp 710rpm motor. Without knowing what pump is on there is hard to tell could be 1725 or 3450rpm.

Re: Champion 2 stage, 80 gallon air compressor
I looked everything over on the pump and can't find anything but 11-17-65 and believe thats a manufacturer build date of the pump.
I think that the compressor is still functional because when I turn it over by hand and hold my other hand over the intake it builds up pressure when I take my hand off the intake. I think that I will try ebay or Harbor Freight for a 5 hp motor and wire it to see if it works at a faster RPM.
I do appreciate the help and ideas.

Have you contacted the manufacturer? They're still in business and may be interested in helping you out to prove the longevity of their product.

You are not going to get a 5 hp motor from HF that will power a 2 stage compressor.

Re: Champion 2 stage, 80 gallon air compressor
you could look around and find a nice 3ph motor and a VFD phase converter and then you could dial in the speed.
