Inscape

Post by Biker »

Not good at all with inscape. But I can copy a clip art image and make a dxf file out of it. Then I move over to autocad and make my changes. My problem is. When I add some kind of text in inscape and make a dxf file I can not see the text in autocad but I can see the image in the file. Even thro I can make an image to dxf file I'm still not good at it. It takes me three or four trays to get it to work. What am I doing wrong.

Did you try converting the text, "object to path". Then, make sure you've got nodes on everything in the drawing... Then select all if it, and "group" it together. Hope I'm on the right track a little for ya.. :D

Text as "Text" cannot be exported to a dxf or cut. It must be exploded or traced into cutable entities such as lines, arcs, and polylines.
Autocad has an explode text command if you load the xpress tools when you install the program. However even then the text will need a bit of cleanup as there will be extra lines and double lines sometimes. Those all need to be deleted.
There is a program called Stencil Fonts that works quite well at creating text and then exporting as a dxf. Then import the font dxf into your art file and scale it and arrange it as needed.

Tnbndr I wil try the path thing. I don't think autocad Lite does not support Express tools so I have been told. I did make a drawing of all the letters but I want to learn how to use inscape to do all those fonts on there.

Acourtjester. How did you do that. that is getting to where I want to be. That looks good. I will get up with you when I get some time at the shop tomorrow. Thanks.

Did you cut that by hand? Why are the letters so shaky?

That is correct, did not know you were using Lite. But Acad Lite does Insert/Block search for dxf file created with Stencil Fonts, explode once, scale, arrange and cut.

Biker, et al,

If you're using SheetCAM, then MACH 3, I honestly would just stick with Inkscape and leave AutoCAD out of the mix. It's an unnecessary step. SheetCAM will take .svg files natively from Inkscape and convert them pretty much on first look. DXF files are, IMHO, a PITA at this point in my design/cut process. I'm sticking with .svg files and no one has yet to give a good reason otherwise for SheetCAM/MACH3 Users.
