Re: Inkscape question
You have to select the text then "Path">"Object to Path"

Re: Inkscape question
AS stated all parts need to have a "path" for it to be saved as DFX or SVG both work. Now to find out if they have paths click on the icon shown in the image and then move you mouse curser over you project if you see it flash red as the curser crosses over it then it has "paths". Also many parts will have small boxes all over the drawing these are called nodes and you can manipulate these to make changes in the paths. But that is another thing to learn.

Re: Inkscape question
BTW, don't get frustrated with inkscape and give up. It does a a rather large learning curve BUT you can do amazing things with this free piece of excellent software. I clearly remember when I could not figure out why my text did not show up in my DXF files either. ArcLight Dynamics has great learning videos on their website.

Re: Inkscape question
I will just add, as I have on other threads; if you're using Inkscape and SheetCAM, save yourself the hassle and just stick with the .SVG file format. There's absolutely no need to convert those files to DXF anymore. SheetCAM opens .SVG files perfectly.
