Post by SeanP »

Just another quick look at the Smooth tool in X7

Very helpfull at cleaning up traced files or hand tracing for that matter.

Cheers Sean,

looks like a very efficient and useful tool. I wonder if the reduce nodes tool in X5 can achieve the same thing but with a lot more work.

You got me thinking about X7 now :D

Keith.
Reduce nodes does work similar, but smooth will take off sharp corners and straighten dodgy lines/curves better I think, very little about it online.

I really like the bit about taking off sharp corners. I've done that manually quite a few times. What are you doing to me Sean, now I really want X7.

Thanks for the info.

Sean,
I enjoyed your video on the smooth tool, which I use a lot. One thing that I noticed you do was to change the size of the selection circle on the fly by moving the + center to the edge and dragging the selection circle to a different size. I haven't figured out how you did that, and can't find anything online about that. So, how did you do that?

Good stuff, thanks.
It's surprising there is very little about using the smooth tool, have a look on here, you can use the same shortcuts for some of the other tools in that group as well.

Thanks Sean,

I figured it had something to do with the shift, alt or ctrl keys, just couldn't get the right combo together. That tip makes using the smooth tool a lot easier. Works pretty good with the Eraser tool also.

It might behave like Photo paint. Hold down the shift key and with the mouse left click hold and move the mouse north and south.
