Sometimes my Durmax 85 sounds like a whistle. Any ideas what may cause the sound?
Thanks, Jim

My first place to check would be all of the airways starting with the nozzle and working back, don't forget to check the O ring where the retaining cap screws on.

Sometimes mine does it when the water is at a certain level and the torch is close to the edge of the plate. Not a whistle but a high pitch noise that got my attention.

Since I have high frequency hearing loss....I have never heard this. I suspect though that it would have to do with the level of water, and the material thickness as well as the type of part you may be cutting.

I do not have a water table so rule that out...lol..It has to be air escaping somewhere its not suppose to. As the torch
moves over a grate whistle is not so apparent. Does not affect cut quality just a annoying sound.

If air was escaping (where it is not supposed to) then cut quality and consumable life would be drastically affected.

Have you checked the holes in your shield? If one or more is partially plugged it could possibly produce a whistle sound or ????

Re: Durmax 85 sounds like a Whistle
I have a PM 85 and I have heard the same sort of sound. Only when using the fine cut consumables. It seems to disappear after cleaning the shield for me. Not after every dog in the neighborhood is outside my shop though.
