dxf files that won't open

Some of the dxf files I try importing to inkscape open,some don't show up anywhere on the screen. Any tricks for those files that seem invisible?

At one time I had this problem with importing a dxf into Corel Draw. Turns out when importing I had the choice of 3D Projection views on that particular dxf, top, side, front, etc. I just happened to notice the choices and picked the top view when opening one of the "invisible" files, and wa-la, there it was!

It's been a while since I used Ink Scape and I can't remember what options you have when importing dxf's, But perhaps something similar is going on.

Some DFX files will not open in Inkscape others will. How the DFX files are created is the reason

So we need to have a few programs that do the same thing for certain files that are oddball?

That does seem to be the case. I have several programs, some free, some bought, each of which excels at it's own little nitch. Dxf's that won't open in one, will open in another. I can then re-export the file to dxf, and it will open in the program that couldn't open it originally. It's just an odd-ball format that seems to have many different incarnations.

Download Qcad and resave them as an SVG or a newer version of DXF and they will open up just fine.

I dl'ed qcad. That trick works out great on the few files I was having trouble with. Thanks for the tip.
