Hello all,
i was given a 15hp devilbiss 445, 2 stage, 4 cyl. air compressor.
Problem, it sat outside for about 2 years, and water got in the cylinders.
Good news, no water or rust on the crankshaft, but the cylinder block where its honed
is pitted with rust. it would take a GOOD honing, probably a little machining first.
My car mechanic looked it over and said to put sleevesand new rings in the block.
Honestly, i dont want to put a lot of cash in it.
Can i take out maybe 0.010, 0.020" from the block and put the old springs?
or is there a magic paste we can put before honing to plug small holes?
thank you

searched on the net...some people used jb weld or Belzona 1111 to fill the pits, then reground smooth...worth checking out

Re: devilbiss 445 bad cylinder
I had an old compressor that was pumping a little oil. After tearing into it, I found a big scratch in one of the cylinder walls. It gave me a good excuse to upgrade to a bigger compressor. I figured I had nothing to lose on the old compressor, so I used JB weld to fill the scratch, then honed it smooth. Stopped the oil problem, and has so far held up. Of course the old compressor isn't used much anymore either.
