Newbie Question 109?
When cutting with a PowerMAX85 & Fine Cut Consumables, 40AMP, 14GA mild steel - what size should the KERF be?
I am getting a kerf that is basically the same as the material. A piece of 14 GA fits in the top of the cut kerf perfectly.
Just trying to figure how all you guys are cutting such intricate designs with Fine Cut Consumables.

Re: KERF Size?
Hypertherm Manual Chart (3-27) shows "FineCut 0.049" for 14 gauge.
On a clean straight run with correct settings should my actual cut kerf, opening in in cut steel measure the chart size accurately?
I am able to put a piece of 14GA (.0747) in the cut kerf.
I guess I am trying to determine how small of a kerf I can get or can expect using Fine Cut Consumables.
And what that opening / kerf actually measures in real world. . .
I see all this intricate detailed work people like yourself do & it puzzles me if you are doing this with the kerf I am getting.

Re: KERF Size?
The kerf widths listed in the manual are as measured at the top (bottom is narrower). They assume you are cutting exactly as suggested in the cut charts....same speed, exactly same height, same amperage, and in auto air flow mode, and with consumables in like new condition.
The kerf will get wider if:
-You cut slower
-You cut with worn out consumables
-You cut with the torch too far from the plate
-You cut at higher than recommended amperage
-You cut with higher air pressure
