Corel x5 vertical text to a curve

Post by 762frmafr »

I don't know what i am missing on this one, but i can't seem to figure out how to do it correctly. I would like to have vertical text fitted to a curve....like a circle or whatever. Anyone? Thanks in advance.

Sure would like to hear an answer for this one. :D When I need letters done like that I do it the hard way, draw circle, type letters vertical near the circle, calculate angle to where each letter will be, rotate each letter to angle and move them into place. Lots of work so if someone has answer please post!!! :?: :?: :?:

While you are in text to path "mode", look at a box in the top left corner and hover your mouse over it. The words will come up "Text Orientation". Drop the selection box down and click the one for vertical text.

Hope that helps,

Keith.

I know which one you are talking abut Beefy...and I have tried that.... it doesn't seem to be working... maybe I am doing it wrong. The word becomes all jumbled and smashed together when i try using that.

As Keith explained it above, here is a youtube clip showing how to do it, pretty crappy audio but shows what to do.

As I stated before, this does not work. The letters become jumbled and smashed together.

Works for me every time, have you dragged the word out as shown in the video to give enough space between letters and is your path long enough to fit the text on it?

The difference between the video and what I am trying to do is he is doing it on a straight vertical line. Which works every time for me as well. What I am trying to do is fit vertical text to path on a CURVE.

This is using the method on the video, are you trying to add the text to the left line (left side of screen shot) or to the right (right side of screen shot)?
there's a difference

OK just in case there's something not catching on with the video this is what I did

Draw the path for the text.
Type the text and size it. (in this case "TEXT TEST")
Select the shape tool and use the right arrow to drag more gap between letters
Select "Text", then "Text to Path"
Place it on the path where you want it
Then go to "Text Orientation" (top left) and select the bottom one for vertical orientation
Done

If you were doing it on the left side it would automatically want to place the text running from bottom to top as we read and write in the western world way of left to right so to make it run top to bottom you have to play with the mirror function.

That is exactly what I am doing only on the inside of a circle.

Like this

I used the same method except that I placed the text centred over the line before hitting orientation. Then I went to "Arrange" "Break Text Apart" and then manually adjust position of text.

Looking in the user manual for X7, there are two types of text, artistic and paragraph. Paragraph text can only be fitted to open paths. Artistic text can be fitted to open and closed paths. Maybe you're using Paragraph text?

Paragraph text is where you draw the shape that you want to contain the text and then the text will fill that area as typed and adjust the text size to suit the shape as you go.

Just for future reference for anyone that may look back at this thread I'll explain a little clearer for placing the text to the left line as shown in this screen shot so it reads top to bottom.

Image

You basically do the same as above except that before you fit the text to path you mirror the text sideways so that it is reversed and reading backwards.
You then fit text to path and then select the same text orientation to make the letters vertical but each letter is backwards so you now have to mirror the text sideways again to put them back around the right way. If you don't do this the text will read from bottom to top.

I think i figured it out. I ended up having to type one of them backwards so that it would end up top to bottom. But I got it.
