Help on pricing.
Friend of mine has a friend who owns a Fab Shop and ask me to do some work for him. Have to cut 16 to 24 of these. He is supplying the material, all I"m doing is cutting. They are 4" x 9" x 3/4. Just curious what others would charge for cutting something like this.

Re: Help on pricing.
I only have a 65 so I don't do 3/4" but I would say around $8 each. I will be interested to see other input.

Re: Help on pricing.
Do a search on spreadsheet and you will find a very helpful way to charge your customers, especially those that you are doing multiple parts.

Re: Help on pricing.
I did look at the spreadsheet but it only goes up to 1/2. Plus, the prices on the spread sheet is what shops using water jet are charging. Plasma is half that price on spreadsheet.

The spreadsheet is a basis with which to start. You have to modify for prices in your area, for steel, consumables, etc.Plus, the prices on the spread sheet is what shops using water jet are charging. Plasma is half that price on spreadsheet.

Re: Help on pricing.
What about the holes. 3/4" thick steel with 3/4" diameter holes. Are they going to be plasma cut too or would you have to drill them to get good enough quality.
Something to consider in the pricing.
Keith.

Re: Help on pricing.
I generally only cut up to 5/8" material but If I were to cut them they would be $25.12 each if I furnished material or $23.87 for 20+. If they furnished material they would be $18.75 each or $17.50 for 20+. This price is based on 5/8" material.

Re: Help on pricing.
If all I had to do was the cutting, and I furnished the material, I would be around $17 each for the quantity you listed above. If I was going to be doing a higher volume then it would be less per each depending on the quantity. That is assuming, as you said, all cutting no drilling. I would cut them and then throw them into the tumbler so secondary process would be a minimum. If the customer insisted on acid dipped or hand grinding each one with a flap disc, then add another $2-3 each depending on the quality required.

Re: Help on pricing.
You said the customer is a friend of your friend. Has the customer seen a sample of one of your plasma cut holes ? Would they be satisfied with the "quality" of the finished hole. I think some customers think plasmas can cut holes like a laser.
Some seem to have better luck than others with plasma cut holes but I think with 3/4 diameter in 3/4 thickness, everything will have to be spot on to get decent holes.
Just a thought,
Keith.

Re: Help on pricing.
Thank you all for input! I purchased this table at the begining of year for personal use to fab projects for home, shop, and property we are building on. Word got around that I have a table and now ppl are coming to see if I would do work for them. My first gut feeling was around $20 a piece but really had no clue. Thank a bunch again!

Re: Help on pricing.
That would be about 70 sec of cutting. So at $100 per hour for cut time. That would be $2.10 each PLUS $2.10 cleanup and handling @ $100 per hr ShopTIme. PLUS Art time @ $35 per hour
$4.20 each in volume Plus Art Time.
(;-) TP

Re: Help on pricing.
I would hire vmax549 to cut them for you, even with shipping you could come out ahead.
Now that you are cutting them, did you ask enough money??
What did you quote them and how did the cutting go?

If this is how you do your calculations, Where is your costing for material?
Just trying to get my head around what you are doing.
Thanks

Re: Help on pricing.
I would charge 7$ each to cut 20
+18$ drawing/handling (its a simple piece)
+material
no cleanup
