True 100% duty cycle air compressor suggestions.

Post by 762frmafr »

So, I am tired of dealing with air compressor issues. I need a true 100% duty cycle air compressor. Things I want. Has to have at least an 80 gallon tank. Has to be pressure lubricated. Can be 3 phase or single phase. I will get a phase converter if needed. At least 18 cfm. Would prefer single stage but 2- stage will do. 125 psi minimum. Anything else you guys can think of would be appreciated. Brand, model number and best place to buy is what I am looking for. Thanks in advance.

I have a Quincy that I bought from aircompressorsdirect.com
It's 100% duty cycle, very well built, and made in the U.S.A.. They are pricey, but worth the money. I'll never need to buy another, and neither will my son.

If money is no object I would go with Kaeser Compressors. The last place I worked had one that ran 24-7 365 for at least 15 years without any breakdowns.

So, I am pretty sure I have narrowed my search to this model. It has the QP pump on it. My local Quincy distributor can get me the same compressor except with the QR-25 pump on it for $3800. Anyone have any experience to let me know if the extra $1100 is worth the money?

I am the king of overkill & I'm pretty confident that my QUINCY QT 7.5 with an 80 gallon tank will do the trick.

I have been told there is such thing as having TO BIG OF A COMPRESSOR.

A HYPERTHERM PowerMAX 85 needs 6.7 SCFM @ 85 PSI, the little Quincy I have will put out 22.6 @ 175 ACFM.

Based on my thinking, my compressor will put out more than 6X my air consumption rate for my Hypertherm.

So I guess it is how you want to look at it.

For every 6 minutes of torch time my compressor will have to run less than one minute.

This is my thinking, I am not an engineer . . .

If it were me I would stop @ the QP & call it a day. I am assuming you just want to run a plasma table in a one man shop, otherwise, QR it would be . . .
