Hello,
Which material cuts better Hot roll or Cold roll Steel?
I was cutting some 16 ga hot roll steel and was not impressed with my outcome.
I have heard that cold roll steel (P and O) works better.
Any comments on this will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Larry

I have always had really good luck with hot roll steel. I'm not sure but it seems like the millscale helps the slag from sticking to the backside. I don;t have any experience with the cold roll p&o. If you try it let me know how it works out for you.

I have used both. I feel that the cut is better with the cold roll. If your cut outs are sold as raw steel the hot roll is ok. I heat color many of my project or rust them. Hot roll doesn't take either one of these methods well. Just my thoughts.

I prefer cold rolled it cleans up nicer less labor involved if you like the polished look and less smoke as well just my oppinion but if your torch is set up right slg shouldn't be much of an issue either

I have used both and like cold roll better much easier to clean up. My supplier is 20.00 more per sheet on cold roll therefore I use HR and deal with it. I Just use a flapper disk to clean up the dross, a little messy but worth it.

hot rolled material is softer therefore easier to cut...cold rolled requires more effort and more adjustments..but in the end it all comes down to the price thats why i use hot rolled...

Re: Hot roll or Cold roll Steel??
Hot rolling is a hot working metalworking process where large pieces of metal, such as slabs or billets, are heated above their recrystallization temperature and then deformed between rollers to form thinner cross sections. I think, this is it!snowcone wrote:Hello,
