Cut a couple brackets for a buddy. Had a real pronounced bevel on both plates. Yesterday, did a tune-up on the table. Having hard time getting the electrode square. Put together a new tool to do this. Put old electrode in, drew a line for location. Glued it to scrap, added J-B weld around for a little more strength. Installed and use a bulls-eyes level, only 3 minutes to adjust and done. Almost no bevel and less dross to boot.

great tip I have struggled with this . most torches are ergonomic and have nothing to measure from. also the p cam clamp system does not help much

your idea is brilliant I made one and it has never cut so well.
here is my version. I made it with some junk I usually have rolling around the shop. it is a bit more complex and leaves more room for things to get tweeked but it works. thank you for sharing, this made all the difference and now I cut with almost no dross. I posted these pics in the cut quality forum and didn't take any credit for the idea.

My table is up and running and I have an obvious slant to my cuts. But because I'm using a PM45 machine torch head which is tied securely to a VeloxCNC Z axis, I doubt there's any tilt in my setup until I get to the actual gantry.
So now what?
I already know that the table is not level because it's on wheels and is im my garage which slants towards the door. That can't be changed...
Could it be as simple as leveling my water table slats with the torch head?

Leveling the slats with the torch head may work. Do you have the table in the same place each time that you cut? I have a home made dry table on wheels with adjustable bolts to level table. If I move the table ( small shop), I check the level before starting any new cut's. I would work from floor up to the slats leveling. Make the plate ( to be cut) is level, torch square to plate. I now have more trouble with speed, air pressure, time on the tip. Hope this helps.
