Re: GECKO G540 PROBLEMS
The adapter will not work. It's probably more an issue with Mach3 than the 540. The PP driver in Mach3 doesn't work with port adapters. I'm assuming you're using Mach3. You're only option is to use an external motion controller like KFLOP, Galil, SmoothStepper....and there are a few others.
The 540 is a nice unit, but because it has a built in PP interface, it won't work with the external motion controllers. You're best option is to buy an older PC with a PP running WinXP Pro.

Re: GECKO G540 PROBLEMS
I also have the ecko 540. Although I have not used it yet, it has an erthennet connection. ( probably did not spell that right)
When I bought my computer to run this I had to get another parallel Port. Not easy to find because everyone is getting away from them. The second thing I found out was you had to run a 32 bit system, 64 will not work, like the adapters will not work.
If you have a 32 bit tower, that has extra slots, I can put in touch with a guy that should be able to get you a port.
Send me a message if I can help.
