Pricing worksheet

Post by SCHIDTHEAD »

A few months back I posted my workbook I use to do proposals and price things out. Since then I have made some changes to it like discounting quantity orders and other changes I picked up from casual browsing this site. It has worked out pretty darn good for me; I hope it may help some of you having pricing issues. Someone PM'd me and said it is amazing and I gotta agree  Just fill in the salmon colored boxes with the info; adjust the margins you intend to make in profit; fill in your material costs; apply discounts; adjust sales tax and shipping and BOOM baby you see every penny of every quote you make and on the left side of the worksheet, inconspicuously, in small unmarked print for prying eyes is your net profit. Check it out and let me know whacha think. Also, the little red flags give you pointers of what the box is for or how they link together for help using it.

I post it protected so you guys dont open it and start changing cell formulas and throwing the sheet into a tail spin. To unlock it in 07 go to review then protection click un-protect sheet then you can change things; just be careful, when its un-protected, what you change.

That's pretty slick!!! There is some stuff on there that I have never thought of. How can I unlock it in Open Office? I don't use Microsoft.

This is a great spreadsheet. Just wonder how to change the cells that prompt you to add your email, logo etc?

oh and I think this could be a helpful spreadsheet for pricing all sorts of jobs in the shop

Once you unlock the worksheet, right click on the link and go to edit hyperlink. A box will come up and give the option to change the Text displayed and the location that it goes to.

Thanks for sharing SCHIDTHEAD.

This thing is awesome! I never really knew how much I was cutting myself short on prices. And lots of lost revenue!

On your price per Inch column, do you have a quick way to decide the length of the cuts? I know Autocad will measure a poly line, and I guess I could open it, break one end of an enclosed polyline and get a length there, but is there a super quick way to figure total length?

I am new to all this, but sheet cam has a report you can run. I'm not in front of it now, but it is under the file menu and labeled report. In the ful report I know maybe a different one too it lists this information. It does require the program be written in sheetCAM first, but a quick swag could be attainable too.

Actually, I found a Lisp for Autocad for those of you that use it to draw your DXF for your post processor. Its pretty cool because it shows the number of line lengths (pierces) and gives total line length (cut per inch).

Copy this into your Support directory under C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Autocad "Version"\Support

To load this you type (LOAD "LL") at the command prompt. Then after succesfully loading it, type LL at the command prompt and it will ask you to select entities.

!!!Change extension of the attached file to .LSP before saving it to the directory, this site has a filter and would not let me attach it as a .LSP so I saved it with a .DXF extension to bypass their filter!!!

Here is my pricing sheet I made a while back. I still don't have a plasma table (although I'm about to pull the trigger and get one), so this was just my guess on what would work in terms of pricing things out without seeing what attributes of the cut I could look up in the cad program from torchmate I had planned on eventually having.

After looking through this thread it looks as though I may need to readjust some values, as well as in a price for each pierce. Here's my list of questions:
  • Charge by the inch of cut via the above program?
    Different cost/inch based on material/thickness?
    Different cost/pierce based on material/thickness?
What would you base quantity discounts on, only item quantity, or a cut length/pierce quantity discount as well?
Can you look up cut length, area of finished pieces, pierce qty on the torchmate cad program?
    Anyone have any other suggestions?
I see pricing as relying on the follow, do you agree? :
  • Material
    cut length
    area of material used
    number of pierces
    total qty of pieces
total "engineering" time to draw up part
I have based all of this pricing on the cost of metal from metalsdepot.com.... is that a good source for buying metal or too expensive?

Jake

Way too expensive on metal from metalsdepot.com at least compaired to my area. For example a 4' x 8' sheet of 1/4" A36 plate runs about $158 for me. metalsdepot showed $232 plus shipping.

I buy local or from suppliers in Dallas or Oklahoma City. Just depends on what I need and whether I can wait for a truck to run or need it right now. Even if I have it delivered most of the suppliers have trucks in my area at least once or twice a week.

Could pricing be more consistant (and possible more accurate) if the length of cut was replaced by time of cut? This would seem to remove some variables for thickness of material.

Just kind of thinking out loud. Thanks for the price sheets. Much appreciated!

^Thats exactly the kind of thoughts I'm asking for; again, I've never used a plasma before in my life (yet)

In my file I have it set up where the price per length of cut changes based on material and thickness, so I'm thinking that should somewhat correspond to the time of cut.

I updated my calculator with a spot to include pierces, as well as a spot for coating price. As mentioned by someone else, be careful to change the values of the formulas to avoid ruining the calculator. The values in the top charts you can change ($/cut length, etc.)
