Corel Draw x5 will not work with Windows 8

I just upgraded one of the computers I have to Widows 8. There were several programs that had issues with the new OS. Most of which were taken care of with running a compatability mode. PlasmaCam software didn't like widows 8 but did run under compatability mode.

Corel Draw x 5 wasn't so lucky, it poofed. The only fix I found so far is to upgrade to Corel x 6. This is a $200.00 upgrade. RIght now theres a special on this upgrade that rebates like 30 bucks.

I also lost two back-up external hard drives. Both Seagates, both will work on my other machines, but looks like I have to buy another set of those too.

I am considering taking this new computer back and getting one that has Windows 7 as an OS. Would suggest that anyone that wants to go to 8 reconsider this until its been out long enough for there to be patches for your current programs. You can look up what is compatable too prior to purchase..... Just like most of the time I waited till I found stuff not working before I looked up what would work..... oh well..

I downloaded Windows 8 a few weeks ago and have no problems using Corel Draw x5.

Well now...... how did you manage that? I tried every trick in the book I could come up with and it simply did not work. Windows didnt even give me the opportunity to try a compatability mode.. I tried loading it as a shared file, still would not work... I went to Corel web site and they basically said, both on the dropdown list for faq's and with talking to a support staff rep that corel 5 no workie.... So what did you do to get it to work.... I have tried the free x6 version and the upgrade simply isnt that much different for what we do in CNC to make it worth 200 bucks..... so if you can enlighten this factory workers brain on how to make x5 go I would gladly give you my first born male child....

I do not remember doing anything special, loaded windows 8.
Tried corel after and it works, and now I can also create DXF files, which
before I had to use my computer in my shop to do that.

could it be since X5 is 32 bit that it works in windows 8 32 bit but not windows 8 64 bit

just guessing, I had install issues with X5 on windows 7 64 bit, but it eventually worked

corel x6 has native 64 bit support, X5 does not
