1/2" burn question

Post by kbenz »

Tried a piece of 1/2" yesterday. This is a pic of the bottom side. Popped it with a hammer it fell right out. slag knocked right off. edge bevel varied from 2-5 degrees

I am running an older TM1. no avhc. powermax600. 15 IPM. 40 amps. 2 second delay. Brand new consumables

Should I be satisfied with this or will it do better?

Thanks for any help or recommendations. (AVHC or bigger plasma is not in the budget)

Slow down a bit, and you will have to live with some dross...the Powermax600 is rated to pierce and production cut up to 3/8" with its original torch. If you upgrade the system to the new Duramax torch...you will see much better results!

Thanks Jim. the book said 19IPM. that was at 15IPM. how much slower should I go?
What advantage would the duramax torch give me?
waiting on a price on one now. could not find any listed online

I have an RT60m torch for sale. It's not the new duramax but it really woke up my max42. Here's the link to my craigslist ad. I can ship if need be. Make me an offer.

The RT60m is the retrofit torch that was replaced by the duramax. If you have the stock torch that came with the machine, the RT60 will cut cleaner/faster/better consumable wear. The duramax is even better than that but if you can get the RT60 for around half the price...
