I'm getting bad cuts after only 500 inches of cutting. Thought i'd ask for suggestions for A newbie.
Hypertherm powermax 45 plasma cutter set at 45 amps
Air sorce is sufficent to plasma and plasma machine regulator indicator is adjusted correct
Material = 11 ga cold rolled CS (.125")
cut speed = 180 IPM
torch height during cutting is 1/16" off material
the pictures or of the Nozzle #220671 inside and outside.

It clearly is caused by an occasional pierce too close to the plate. Pierce height should be .15" (using the 220673 shield) and cut height should be .062". You need to stay at pierce height (no x, y or z motion) for the pierce delay time of .4 seconds. Piercing too close, moving before the pierce is complete allows material to blow back between the shield and the nozzle...this double arcs the nozzle causing the notching you can see on the outside of the nozzle bore....and you can also see material inside the nozzle.
