Post by ctorres3120 »

I'm having problems with my plasma cuts,
When I'm cutting material 1/2 "penetral machine takes the material and makes cuts good and bad, is the first time that happens to me, the consumables are new and have good air, is a Hypertherm 1250, appreciate any help. Carlos

Looks like either a slug of moisture in the air (that is the way moisture comes through air lines...it tends to build up in an area...then comes through in batches) or a loss of air flow at the torch.

-water....most common.
-Air flow restriction or leak (air line pinching somewhere in the motion?
-loose work ground cable (are any of the connections getting hot?)

I thought the same thing, that was the water in the air line.
Jim you that water in the air line also affect the THC?
when short material 16 with THC caught me is reading high voltages and THC sends down the torch and torch crashes into the material.
? Jim, Thanks for your help, Carlos

The height control is based on arc voltage feedback....essentially measures the voltage drop between the torch electrode and plate. When water enters the torch....you no longer have air (78% nitrogen, 23% oxygen)....rather you have some air and water (hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen) which changes the resistance of the arc...which changes the arc voltage drop....which will change the torch height.

So...yes, moisture in the plasma air always changes the torch height.
