I would vote for HyperTherm. I have a 1250 and love it. Plus JimColt is here to help troubleshoot any problems you might have.

Hypertherm hands down, because of Jim Colt and they seem to offer longer tip life. Go with machine torch when you buy new and get the hand torch with it, alot cheaper that way.
the machine torch works a lot better on a table as far as mounting goes.
I f you need the hand torch unplug and switch no messing with your table setup.
BTW I have the PM65 and love it.
If I ever need another cutter it will be hypertherm just because Jim goes above and beyond the call of duty for thier customers, something all to rare these days.
Alot of companys that are on hard times could have learned from Ht and may have a better future than they do. The product is 50% the service is 50% or more important.
Just my 2 cents worth

I have a PM 65 with a machine torch for the table and a hand torch with 25' lead, works awesome. Jim offers the best support a company could give!

Hypertherm-Support Support Support. I bought a used 1000 and its one of the early models and any time I have had any questions their tech support has been unbelievable. Its hard to get this kind of support now.

I purchased a Hypertherm PMX 65 with a TM table.
Superb support. No problems other than my own stupidity.
Between Jim Colt and this site.
Excellence beyond compare.

Re: HPERTHERM 85 VS THERMAL DYNAMICS 152
Machine torch:
- easier to square to the plate...which provides for more consistent cut edge angles.
-easier to mount. Best suggestion is to use a breakaway mount that saves the torch from damage in the likely event of a collision with tipped up parts....also makes consumable change easier/quicker.
-machine torches will last longer as the relected heat and molten metal spatter do not affect them like they do with a hand torch.
-No need to bypass the torch safety trigger curcuit. Machine torches (Hypertherm) are interfaced through the rear panel CPC interface plug on most systems.
Most of the newer major brand plasma systems have a torch quick connect...allowing you to switch from machine torch (leave it permanently mounted on the machine) to a hand torch (for cutting up the plate skeleton and or for portable use of the plasma cutter).

Re: HPERTHERM 85 VS THERMAL DYNAMICS 152
I bought a Hypertherm PM45 two years ago.
Since I live in the Netherlands-Europe I chose it solely because of the online support and the access to datasheets to interface to home build cnc tables and THC.
Although the European Hypertherm Customer Service office is just an hours drive from here I figured I would rely on the forums for quick answers to (small?) problems.
And I never had ANY problems with my powermax; a superb machine.
