export dxf to Autocad from Corel 5

Post by solomanb »

Hi
When i export or save dxf files from Corel 5 and import or open same files to Autocad Mechanical 2009 I click on properties and it shows splines . My Kioke /Promotion will not read this line type or ellipse line type. So my question is how do you or can you change a spline into a polyline. I down loaded a free program that exports dxf with polyline properties from Corel and works fine when opening them in Autocad Mechanical 2009.It is called DXF tool from CNC something something. I like it ,easy to use, but its another program to upkeep. I also have SignLab which I use for my decal and signs made from plastics. I like Corel and have seen that other operators/hobbiests on this site enjoy its attributes. .I try ,I try and I try, my wife says ask for help. I am very independant, self taught on computer skills ,a Journeyman Welder for 30+ years but still eighteen in spirit and stubborness . But I am finaly realizing my limitations are keeping me from moving forward. Thanks for your help

To avoid splines in corel draw there are two options

export DXF V12, which will save segmented polylines (lots of short line segments),

or use external arc fitting software (if line segments cause problems)

Hey Solomonb I to have a Koike\Promotion(Shout out to Randy May and Justin) set up with a Hypertherm HPR260XD and my machine does not like the short polylines either. It is better to export it in a versions that uses arcs and curves inorder to reduce the node count as much as possible. I think Gary uses V-Carve pro in order to reduce the node count from DXF files exported from Corel. I have CAMduct that can simplify some files that have a lot of polylines, but not on others, haven't figured that out yet. Autodesk bought out MAP software and sent me a new copy of the Autodesk branded CAMduct software but I haven't had a chance to transfer my files and setting as of yet.

Yes, I use v-carve pro to do arc fitting, it converts from EPS to DXF.

The only other program I've seen with really good arc fitting is adobe illustrator with the exdxf plugin.

Does anybody know any other options?

Thanks you guys for the prompt response. I tried a simple ellipse in Corel saved as a cmx. Imported this to Signlab, saved as a dxf polyline, Signlab has four dxf export filters. Then imported to Autocad . Worked ducky. The two ellipses took 40 sec. to cut (.125 ally) , and a quick edge sand on the belt. Took them to work with me the next day and all the boys were impressed, not so much the girls ( they are tough to please). I looked at V-carve and I will add that program to my long list of software and tools to master, hoepfully before I pass, lol. (I never tried loading from the save at Signlab,um, me should try that and be frustrated or happier than a pig in........)

Again thanks for your help and happy cutting.

There are no big jobs some just take longer
