Poly Lines Vs. Arcs

Post by Cotton »

Just a quick question to those on the board, is there a simple way of converting a DXF file that contains polylines into Arcs & Curves? My Plasma does not like polylines, lot's of shaking that can't be good for it's longevity. I am also having to either grind out rough edges or spend A LOT of time redrawing artwork. I have Inkscape and running a cut program called OPUS. Thanks!

Sounds like you have a raster file.
There's a good program to covert that to vector, Vector Magic does it well.

If I have a drawing useing polylines I set MACH3 to "constant motion".

Makes a huge differance.

I don't have Mach3 and it is not a raster file, it is a DXF with polylines, not Arcs.

You need software with arc fitting capability

v-carve pro, bezarc, DXF Tools in corel (theoretically), artcam express (potentially)

as for common CAM software for plasma cutting, I don't test those much, haven't ID'd any with arc fitting

I only used the trial version for a while, I was impressed but have no real need for the program myself.
Having moved on to Design Edge, It's rare for me to use use any third party software these days.
