Introduction

Post by gmodert »

Hello All,
New to the forum but have been running a Pirahna C510 w/Hypertherm PowerMax 125 for a couple years now to support my machine shop.
We primarily make special equipment and tooling and I've been machining and welding for 15years.
I started looking into online forums when I made the decision to recontrol our C510 The machine came with a MyPlasm controller w/Proma THC that all in all left a bit to be desired.... Recently completed integrating a Masso G3 controller & DTHC onto the equipment.
Anyway Ive seen some good content on this forum and look forward to being a part of the community.

I would like to pick the collective groups brain on some tools and entry level material handling equipment that anyone has on their wishlist as well.
If there is a preferred forum for that please point the way!
Thanks all
G

Welcome gmodert. Sounds like you had your hands full with the retrofit, I can imagine it would certainly pose some challenges! There are some forums here https://www.plasmaspider.com/viewforum.php?f=132 for tools and related equipment that may be what your looking for. How is the machine working with the new electronics?

Hey Weldguy, thanks.
The recontrol was pretty straightforward.
Didn't have to swap any motors or drives so overall it was pretty quick.
It doesn't hurt that Im a machine builder either....
I will say that overall the Masso hardware seems to be of decent quality. The documentation is ok.., it does take a littlemore searching than i would have liked for certain things but not terrible.
The improvement in the motion control and torch control is night and day. We were not very happy with theProma/Myplasm setup.
Thanks for the recommendation as well, we primarily build equipment for the automotive industry and i homestly hate it....
Looking to start building equipment for entry-mid level manufacturing. Thats something that im passionate about.

Glad top hear your retrofit was a positive improvement. Sounds interesting, what kind of equipment building do you have in mind? Just curious.

Well, material handling and load/unloading tools and adjustable torch breakaway mounts seem like an area that needs some improvement in the fabrication world.
We have a decent size shop and getting sheets on & off out 5x10 table still sucks sometimes...
I ended up building a electormagnetic sheet lifter that mounts to our forklift to make that operation a bit easier.
Also, theres really no transfer table automation avaialble for smaller fab shops that i've seen.
More directly the torch holder that came equipped on our C510 was hot garbage.
Ended up designing and machining an aluminum body breakaway holder and replacing all the janky sensors on the z carriage for better touch off and monitoring.
I just figured if we could use these upgrades there are probably other guys in similar situations.
Just looking for some discussion and opinions other than my own.

Fellow Masso User Here.

Did you go with the Masso DTHC? That would allow you access to their Post Processors. Software Ver 5.09 and up has better restart features for plasma.

Post up some pics if you would.

Here is a pretty slick setup for loading sheets on the table:

Yeah, the Masso DTHC is significantly better than the proma.
We use Pronest and had no issue at all getting a post from hypertherm.

I'll get some pics when i get back into the shop.

We ended up buildin a similar sheet storage system, minus the built on jib.
Im not fond of that idea but i can understand it for smaller pcs.

Thanks!
