CNC controlled gantry crane and part picker on plasma z
Hello has anyone CNC controlled there gantry crane to make loading sheets extremely safe? Seems like a big hazard is loading and unloading the sheets and reducing this would be great. I am building a industrial CNC plasma table 10.5x15 or 10.5x10 and building a gantry to go along with it. I was thinking it may be possible to remove parts aswell like this. I don't know if the gantry crane with a small magnet would be accurate enough but I was thinking the Z axis on the cnc plasma could be retrofitted with a electro magnet or suction to remove small parts and throw the skeletons into a scrap bin (which would be programed to be cut up into manageable pieces) if you have seen any examples of this being done or have any advice please let me know.

Sounds like a big project, I would definitely like to follow your build if you will be posting pics and progress. Love the DIY stuff. As for a cnc controlled gantry crane I am not sure that would be safer than a human operating the buttons to make the crane move.

I've seen some lasers have sheet handling, but not like an overhead gantry crane with cables dangling etc.
More like vacuum lifter cups in an array, slid over the table on ways, maybe drop down 12" to table surface, retract, and
one motion to slide parts off to a awaiting pallet.
