Question about Automation Kit - 9-8311

I ordered the Automation Interface Kit - 9-8311 for my Cutmaster 82 but am unsure what all it comes with. The picture shows what appears to be a receptacle that mounts in the back of the machine. Do I need to order a generic plug to wire my THC and TC into? I appreciate any insight you may have.

I expect this kit is similar to the CPC upgrade kit for the Hypertherm. This will include the parts to install into your cutter, but you will still need to either build or buy the appropriate torch control cable to connect to your specific table/controller.

David thank you! The "CPC" was the vital bit of info I was missing. Was able to track down everything I needed.

If anyone else needs to put together a CPC cord here's the Digikey parts numbers for the CPC plug.

Plug body. A1358-ND
Backshell clamp. 1-206070-8-ND
Pins. if your wires are 16-18ga A31987-ND
20-24ga A31989-ND

As I understand it, the above 3 part numbers are required to make a CPC plug, but also a wire entry seal kit is required. The TE Connectivity part number for that part is 213919-2 (sorry, it's not a digikey number). Now it's possible that you can leave out the seal kit and that would mean water could get into the connector more easily. But it still might work.

morning , I have and cutmaster a60 that apparently has a burnt board from a dreaded lightning strike. so I decided to convert my cutmaster 58 hand held using the 9-8311 automation kit. from what I've seen, I need these additional parts. does anyone have a diagram or info on where to hook these up? thanks!! If your THC can function using RAW arc voltage and doesnt require an OK to move signal you can get away with not using the automation kit and wire it for free.

I have the instructions, but torch does not fire, and the air is 1 sec on,1 sec off. i believe it can use raw arc, I don't use THC, I just need the torch to fire, I believe I know the terminals, just wanna make sure..

Gotcha. Ok well this is going to sound dumb but I can almost guarantee it's torch consumables. Be sure the spring loaded plunger in the start cartridge moves in and out, be sure the tapered edge on the end of the start cartridge plunger that contacts the tip is clean and smooth using a scotchbrite pad and install new genuine td electrode and tip and give it another go.

morning thanks for the reply, the SL100 torch has new TD consumables, I am thinking the pin outs need to be swapped as the 58 handheld torch has different pin locations, sorry, about the lack of knowledge,,,

I could most certainly be wrong but if your torch flows air when the fire signal is sent I would expect it to fire. I have seen countless times in the past where the consumables are installed improperly or the starter cartridge is sticky and these machines will do nothing but pulse air on a fire signal. Curious to hear what you find out.
