Indexes are for if you have to move the sheet on the table because your cutting area isn't large enough to cut the entire part at once.
I go 1-1/2 or 2x material cost + the price per inch that is in the spreadsheet + pierces. I don't really add for design time, but mine is mostly a hobby.

I just used the defaults that were in the spreadsheet when I downloaded it. For artsy stuff, I adjust it a bit on some pieces if the total price sounds high. I've learned it isn't really a science. If you're selling stuff, but not being overrun with business, and you're making more than your spending then your probably about right. Like I said, I'm doing it more as a hobby, so I don't need to make a living off of it.

A little confused on the height and width part are we looking for square footage or ? i can obviously see how it works for a single sheet but im trying to price a job that requires 3 4x8 sheets and dont know if i just multiply 48 & 96 x3 or how that would work.

32sq ft per sheet x 3 pcs.. 96' of material
If you are using inches multiply 48x96 and divide by 144(12"x12"= a square foot)

I have noticed a lot of discussion on product pricing. Here is the original Excel pricing worksheet (with a few updates and modifications) that I posted a few years back. It has made the rounds through other forums and has been modified several times by other users. Feel free to use it and to modify it to suit your needs.

Would anybody have this spreadsheet converted to Metric? I am from Australia and we work in mm and I totaly dont get the inch system. Otherwise what would I need to change to make it work?

Thanks David for that. I spent half the day trying to convert another spreadsheet to metric to suit. The problem I’m finding is to get a easy go to size to start from. With imperial the sq inch works well but in metric the Sq centimetre is I feel too small. It ends up too many zeros. And then it jumps up to Metres which is far too big. I Sm now working on 10Sq cm. Which seems to work.

I will have a look at your conversions tomorrow to see if it has a better idea. I have a feeling though from a quick look that the mix of inches and centre metres will be hard. We have different thickness steel plate here too. I will give it a shot though and see if I can do better tomorrow.

Edit: Also my output is in Aus $, Obviously editable I will see how I go and will post my finished spreadsheet back here for anybody else to use.

Ash - the spreadsheet I posted above is one from this site. I did not have a hand in creating it, but I thought it might be useful for you since it is in metric units.

In this case I want to add a column for 11ga, I was able to add this into the bottom "Cost Of Material" chart but when I inserted a new column for the 11ga into the top "number of items" chart, the pricing does not update as the others do as I input the values of the project.

I believe that you will need to type in the equation for the operation you wish to perform for that column.

Yeah I had to go through and input & adjust the formula/function for the entire row. Would be alot easier if I could just insert a column and have it automatically adhere to the functions of the rest of the rows

I haven't used excel in years but I think if you insert a column and drag the formula from the adjoining column over, as in copy, it will adjust the cell references automatically. Not sure though.

Doug - that sounds right. I haven't used it in many years either. Or he could probably copy and paste the formula into the new cell.

I know I'm necroing a very old thread, but for anyone who prefers the simplicity of this version over Joe Jones' version, you can open and edit this file in OpenOffice with no issues.

Not to bash Joe's version... his is more useful to me. But someone might like this version better.

Thank you for this, I tweaked some of the costs and prices and found I was undervaluing my products and time.
