sites for free files

Post by acourtjester »

Here is a video on You/tube listing sites with free cut files, they are for laser cutters but I would say many could be used of plasma.

Another site for custom artwork to deliver DXF files for you to cut.

That's why I was looking for files like that, I order a new 70 Watt diode laser table, but some of the drawings look as they may cut on plasma so I passed the video along. Any with close tolerances like to one you posted would not work, other projects are more simple.

Tom - what kinds of plywood or other wood, and how thick, can this cut without damaging the diodes? It says over 1" Paulownia in one pass, but my understanding is that this is expensive wood. What wood type are you planning to cut?

Also - what reviews or other information did you use to evaluate your selection of this particular laser table over others on the market?

Thanks,
David

There are many YouTube videos for different guys showing ikier laser tables, they have been putting out different power level tables. They are either the parent company or have connection to another laser table seller {Atomstack} (not as nicely packaged). ikier seems to be a large robotic company also. They also use linear rails of the axis in place of the rubber roller, and offer an extended rail package to double the length. Another thing is they have Z axis drive for focus and burning stepping. It has a switch to select 1/2 or full power.
Here is another guy who tests many lasers and this report is for the 36 Watt and he cuts through different woods and other items with speed and power setting.

Another guy with cutting different woods again lower power laser table.

Tom - I've been checking out the videos you posted, and have just ordered this one. I got the one with the protective cover plus the cutting mat.
I'm not sure where it is shipping from or how long it will take to deliver. I suppose I'll need to upgrade my LightBurn to the full version that supports actual laser cutting. So some new things to learn for me.

Nice looking deal, Mine came from China and is to be showing up today, first they were out of stock and then sooner they sent me a delivery notice.
It was shipped DHL it is in Louisiana now last check on progress. You did select the US plug in the order??
With Lightburn it should show the laser when you plug it into the unit and have the post processor ready. I have used it with the Ortur laser I have now. They have an update (with upgrade charge) for a newer version, seems to have some bugs so I have been waiting to do that. You will need to do some test panels to get the etch/burn chart to make the G-code planning easier, many YouTube videos about that. This is done for the different materials you etch/burn. I can see you will do some really nice Christmas ornaments next year. :Yay The number of new project this thing will open up. :Yay

Tom - I assume that mine is coming from China as well. I'm in no particular hurry, but I expect it should be here within 2 weeks or so. Yes - I did specify the US Plug, and just sent them an email reminding them of that fact. The website did say they were/are in stock. My copy of LightBurn is at least several years old and is the cheaper one for drawing only, with no actual laser control. I'll need to see if I can just upgrade it or if I need to purchase the whole new program. I saw several youtube videos where they were doing the test panels. Yes - Christmas ornaments was one of the things I had in mind when I decided to order it. This will be my first cnc laser cutter. I had a brand new Co2 laser cutter that I purchased about 5 or 6 years ago, but I never had the time to get it setup and gave it away after it had set here for a year. I think it cost around $500 at the time. It sounded like a real pain to deal with mirrors, alignment, burnt out laser tubes, etc. This new one seems like it will be easy to use with far less fiddling around and maintenance, more like my 3D printers.

Tom - is this the LightBurn version I need to run the new laser cutter? I just renewed my license, and it says GCode version.

Thanks,

just upgrade it no need for the full licence you don't need the laser control one just gcode one as it exports gcode directly via usb, not the DSP or galvo one

https://lightburnsoftware.com/products/ ... icense-key

....you don't even need to upgrade it but there are some improvements such as mirror and other bits

Thanks Robert adding the sites to my search list, like 3-D printers there seems to be so many people posting projects, great help.
The upgrade seems cheaper then I though, but $65 was not bad for original purchase. :Wow

acourtjester wrote: Tue Feb 27, 2024 9:27 am I am using the g-code version, this is for a standard laser like we have. The other licenses are for the DSP for Galvo, they are more expensive or you can buy a license for both DSP and Galvo. If you have the cheaper G-code license it will do all the normal functions, from creating from scratch of importing different image files to create either a direct connect or place on a USB stick. The ikier comes with a USB stick
Tom - thanks for the information specific to your new Ikier machine. I'm not sure what the DSP license would do over and above what the GCode license will do as it relates to my specific Ikier machine. Do you know if the DSP license adds any additional capabilities for our machines, or is it only for a different type of machine?

Thanks,
David

I would think if is the different machine, and there may be a license they need to use the technology for the DSP. Similar to what window charges for their coupling with the external software packages to function. And the Galvo is even more, or more for both combination software.

Tom - perhaps when you get your new Ikier laser cutter up and running, you can give us a brief tutorial with screen shots showing how you interface it with LightBurn to cut or engrave a part. Once I have mine up and running I would be more than happy to do the same.

Pays to get in on the ground floor.
This is not a substitute for a Plasma table but a very handy tool to have. Cannot do inlays or etch glass with a plasma. :HaHa :HaHa

Tom - thanks for the update! I did read that it can cut very thin stainless steel. I think around 0.002" thick or so. I wanted it mainly for wood, and maybe plexiglass or similar. Yes - it can do may things the plasma table can't do. Yes - we saved around $500 by getting in early.
