Yes - it would be helpful if you would share your Fusion 360 file so we can see exactly what your design is and how your questions relate to your design. Plasmaspider does not currently have the capability to upload/share Fusion 360 exported file type. I will send you a PM with my email address and you can send it to me there.

To change the angle, rewind the timeline to your original sketch, edit the sketch, and then fast forward to implement the change.

Re: design some pin hinges
Here is the dxf file for the sketch. You can import it to Fusion 360 for reference, or simply edit your original sketch to reflect these dimensions. The dxf file is in inch units, so scale it to mm if that suites you.

Re: design some pin hinges
Chris - I have responded to your question about changing the angle above. I see no problem with using a 3mm hinge pin. What are your specific questions about incorporating an R clip to lock the open side. This should be pretty simple to do. What is your proposed method of manufacture? Welded structure, 3D printing, or?? If you fabricated the gas tank, then I expect you will have no problems shaping the panels to create the storage box. I expect aluminum, perhaps 3003 H14, shaped and tig or gas welded.mcmental wrote: ↑Tue Jun 13, 2023 8:59 am Hi David thanks for your help, ive attached the files, i have also noticed that the top angle has changed from 72.5 degrees to 62.5 during my drawing, its 72.5 that i require please.
i was thinking of using a 3mm pin for the hinge on the left side and maybe a R clip somehow to lock the opening side??
this is going to be a tool holder for my dads vintage Trials bike to put a few spanners and a spare inner tube inside.
it will fit sort of under the seat, i have attached a screenshot of bike with a square showing the rough location.
many thanks

Thanks David, for the time being I am going to 3d print it as it’s sort of a temporary thing for now until the bike comes off road for winter

Re: design some pin hinges
Chris - what material do you plan to 3D print it from? And what was your plan to implement the "R clip" to latch the lid to the box?
Thanks,
David

Re: design some pin hinges
David, we have some abs filament aswell as pla here, I was literally thinking of putting 2 r clips on, 1 top and 1 bottom. But if you can think of a better way? Maybe even another 3mm stainless rod to drop down copying the hinge side style??

Chris - How would you plan to attach the R clips? Perhaps show a sketch. The abs filament might hold up better than the pla.mcmental wrote: ↑Wed Jun 14, 2023 3:49 amDavid, we have some abs filament aswell as pla here, I was literally thinking of putting 2 r clips on, 1 top and 1 bottom. Re: design some pin hinges
Excuse my very poor drawing skills ha ha ha
Maybe another pin like the hinge side would be easier?
I was thinking that the piece that the r clip goes through would be part of the main body and a gap in the flap/door for it to pass through. Maybe another pin like the hinge side would be easier?

Re: design some pin hinges
sorry for the slow reply David, life has been busy recently!
so after asking Gary the magnet idea doesnt seem like a good idea.
im wondering if trying to drop another 3mm pin down would work? or just stick with the R clip design.
thanks

Smooth trail’s really, it’s all vintage bikes so more about the slow ride and skills and no jumps

If it's slow and no jumps, then maybe you don't even need a latching mechanism. The tools are going to stay in the box unless he gets upside down. But as a design exercise, I like the idea I just posted above. This would be pretty simple to implement and work well.

Re: design some pin hinges
Yes that would work well I think, as a start I was thinking of fastening it to the bike frame with cable ties around the upright section of frame or even a jubilee clip that goes through the storage box and round that uprightadbuch wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2023 2:31 amIf it's slow and no jumps, then maybe you don't even need a latching mechanism.
