Save as DXF from Inkscape for SheetCAM

How do i export from inkscpe to dxf to open in sheet cam

Drop down the File menu - click on Save - when Save dialog box appears drop down the Save is Type drop down menu - select Desktop Cutting Plotter (AutoCAD DXF R14) (*dxf) option - name your file and choose a save location and you should be set to open that dxf in SheetCam

I have been saving as SVGs and using sheetcam and cutting for a few years like this.

It has been my experience that for the same drawing exported from Inkscape, the svg will have less nodes than the dxf - resulting in possibly a smoother cut.

It probably depends on the specific cutting table and the particular design being cut. I know that fellow member ROKCRLER has mentioned that he get smoother cuts when excess nodes are edited out using Inkscape. There was some discussion about this in the thread below.

I definitely see better cuts with reduced nodes, especially when cutting 16ga and thinner since i usually cut fast on those. Thicker than 11ga i dont worry too much because those parts are usually welded pieces for the rock crawlers i build. Art stuff i try to clean up as much as possible.

I will have to try it. I actually cut out many of those exact ornaments with custom names using various fonts. They come out great. I think Command CNC has something in regards to tracking better for smoothness. I forget what Tom C. said about this.
