Inkscape - Need Help with Union of Dog and Ring
I had a request to help with an Inkscape file from a fellow member. He says:
" I'm trying to create union between the dog and the ring around it but i cannot figure out how to do so, any advice?
thanks."
His file looks good in Normal view, but he is having problems when attempting to cut.
He says: "I've tried grouping, and union but when i move the file to sheetcam i have seperate parts.
Here is my solution.

Here is another method to achieve the same end result. Screen shot the Inkscape image, open with Paint.net and crop to size and save as jpeg. Then import jpeg image to Inkscape and Path, Trace Bitmap. Then save as svg or dxf for import to Sheetcam for creating cut paths.

Chris - here is different approach. Create 2 concentric circles, difference them, move object to be unioned, and then Path, Union. This would work for the Dog in Ring file and might be easier than using the circle, stroke to path and edit method. I have substituted a square for the dog/wall object for illustration purposed.

Another method to realign the items in place of the snap tool is the "Align and Distribute" tool. As you can see the 3 items are not aligned, click on one then hold the shift key and click on the other 2 items. Then click on either of the align tool shown then the other. The end result is all are aligned as shown. this also works even if they are not touching like the circles.

Tom - thanks for pointing out another method for effectively snapping the objects together! One of the great things about Inkscape is that there are many times several methods available to accomplish the same end result. I often use the Align and Distribute tool for adjusting multiple objects to parallel or to equal spacing between them. The "center snapping" is just another great use for this tool.acourtjester wrote: ↑Wed Oct 12, 2022 9:24 am Another method to realign the items in place of the snap tool is the "Align and Distribute" tool. Happy to help! Inkscape can be lots of fun to use, and working on these existing files will hopefully show others some simple methods to accomplish similar things with their Inkscape drawings.
