2nd layer effect in inkscape

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if there is an easier way in inkscape to create a background behind text (or image), that is slightly larger to create a border effect?
It has to be separate from the the text as it will be cut out separately to create a 2 layered sign.
I have attached an image to give you an idea. I have just quickly done the background with the bezier curve tool (trace around outer edge then fill) as an example and is very rough. I know inkscape is quite powerful and I'm sure there must be another way that is much easier and will provide better results?

I don't know of an easy way to do it with Inkscape, but perhaps Tom does. Is this what you are looking for?

This is very simple to do with LightBurn using the Offset tool. I would recommend getting your free 30 day trial to test it out. I drew the text and did the offset with LightBurn, then exported as svg and opened with Inkscape. I hope this helps.

Here is something that might be what you are looking for. It looks much more complicated to me than simply using the Offset tool in LightBurn, but if you watch the video it might be something you can use. Please let us know how it works for you.

Improvise there are 2 methods to do what you want, the one that David posted and the other is linked offset. Here is a video I did sometimg back for another member The one above has a little more control as to the sizes of the offset. I have used this for different wall hangers, and also have broken the original shape apart for cutting and painting for a layered project.
