Convert image to plasma cut file

I use Corel graphics suite and plasmacam software for my design. I find I can do a trace if it’s black and white but if there is a background I have a lot of trouble separating one from the other

OK. I will bet back with you later this evening and show you how to do it using Paint.net, Inkscape, and Design Edge.

Here is how I do it.

First I use Paint.net to convert to black and white and adjust brightness/contrast and save as jpeg.

Then I import jpeg to Inkscape and use the "Path, Trace Bitmap" tool to create vector paths, then save as dxf.

And finally, I import to Design Edge for editing: delete unwanted features, link/join, and save as dxf. If cutting with Plasmacam, then no need to export - simply create cut paths and cut part.

Both CorelDraw and Inkscape are handy for node editing.

Although Design Edge does not have the capability to edit individual nodes, using a combination of the trim, bulge, and curve tools can achieve similar results.
