It is commonly used to fire the mechanized plasma torch if you are using a track burner or some other non cnc device to move the torch. There is no use for it with a hand torch, and no need for it with a cnc machine.

Rather than start a new thread, I'll ask the question here.

how does the powermax 45 carry out its cooling? Is there normally a fan running or does it only come on when warmed up?

Just seemed strange when i fired it up, I'm used to hearing a fan running on my other welding machines but the 45 had nothing. Is this normal?

Little hesitant to continue using untill I know it's not supposed to be running

Cheers

The 45 has a "fan on demand" that only runs when it senses a temperature rise. This is to minimize the amount of shop dust that gets pulled through the system when idling. Perfectly normal. When the fan comes on..it is also normal....I had a few users that thought when the fan came on it was getting close to exceeding its duty cycle!

jees, you're quick!
Cheers for that, sounds like a good idea. Just seemed strange when all my other equipment is turned on there is some sort of noise from either fans or transformers, whereas the 45 is dead silent. The fan on demand isn't something I'd worry about. I have a tendency to keep going until a machine goes out on overload. Although not often!

Thanks again!

Gonna throw another question in here to keep a bit of info in one spot.

Jim, just wondering if you ever got around to grabbing those amphenol or equivalent part numbers for the plug and pins to suit the cpc?

Oh, so they are Amphenol parts on the CPC port. I have bought some of those for a work project. I seem to remember a lug option (within the back shell) on those so you dont have to crimp pins.

there is a few different options as far as I'm aware.
Amph and tyco being a couple. but i can't for the life of me find a definitive answer anywhere. Jim had offered in another thread a while back to check up for me but it must have slipped his mind with all the other issues he helps out with elsewhere. I believe him to be a very busy man!
