Inkscape to sheet cam letter issues (sometimes)

Post by sho_me82 »

It’s only sometimes when I edit a file it does this. Other times no issues have tried different font styles same thing. And yes I have went and cleaned up nodes by deleting them on the letters. If I open 1:1 it looks like pic below if I open 25:1 it looks fine? Don’t know of a way to scale in sheet cam tho. In Inkscape the image is 24w x 14h. I have shrunk image down to 6x3 and still same thing. I’m lost on what to do.

So it only does this when you scale down real small?

When you import a drawing you can scale the drawing as shown in the image below. Now if you draw in inches and save in DXF you click on the inch box. If you save the drawing in SVG you scale it 1:1. What I see in your image is the small red box in the lower left and the screen if black. This is showing you have not selected the correct size of you material or work field. This is done in the setup of SheetCam see the attached images.

Yes i save as svg in inches and import to sheet cam. the good cut pic is if i bring it in 1:25. The messed up one is if i bring it in 1:1 cause i save the image the size i wanted in inkscape.

I have tried both ways and if i bring it in 1:1 its the messed up cut file. But when i bring it in 1:24 its the good one. I understand the red box sizing that is the actual size of my table. if i bring it in at 1:25 it makes it roughly 334" wide. 1:1 makes it the 24" that i have saved as in inkscape.

Yes that’s how it’s setup. Like I said if I bring it in 1:24 it’s fine just massive size. I even though well I’ll take the image to a smaller size got it down to 2”x1” and still same scenario

that may be true, when looking at a drawing I always use the fill off and very thin path width of 0.005" then in SheetCam I have the "show true width" selected to see if the kerf will interfere with other cuts. If you want o post the original file I will look at it.

I would but I've messed with it to the point I'm gonna have to reedit letters and go through the nodes again. I don't know is its me or just inkscape but i have to edit every letter because of rogue nodes lol

There is some strange things with this. First as I have said before some fonts do not cut as they are shown, look at the "O". Another thing is I don't know why but the inside and outside offsets are reversed look at attached images. I would remove the text and replace it with another font, but check how they look before going to far.

So basically it’s just a none usable font? I’ve tried 3-4 different ones and they all do the same. On my sheetcam the e’s are messed up

I made a video of changing the scale from 1:1 to 1:24 and everything was fine. Didn’t change anything but the scale size. I don’t know how to upload it though

If you zip the video you can post it here, or you can upload it to the Google drive (free for 15 GB) and then click to share it and you can get a address for anybody to view and post that here. like this

Something you may try is to crop the drawing to only have a small amount of the letters and run that through SheetCam and cut it. That way you know quickly if things are good or not. With your drawing in Inkscape using the node tool click on path then break apart.
select on ov the letters and hold down the shift key and select other letters to may 5 letter together. Now go to edit and select copy, then open a new Inkscape and paste those letters. save and make a G-code in SheetCam of those and cut them to check if OK .
