z not tripping the limit switch

Post by urshadow »

When z/torch goes down and touches the metal, then will flip the switch to go to torch cutting height, torch just bounces. Have to lift the torch mount to engage the switch. Premier Plasma and haven't contacted Jake yet, I am gone on vacation, but wondering what your thoughts are.

Is this a new system of has this just started?? Are you using the G28 command in your G-code??If you look on the diagnostic page at the Z home and lift the torch to trigger the switch does the indicator light??

Table is 3 years old..been working perfectly..now when torch goes down and touches metal, acts like it doesn't have the power to keep pushing down to trip switch..just bounces

Not sure how the Premier systems switch system works but maybe its just 3 years of plasma dust causing things to bind up, Maybe just a good cleaning.

have you tried to place the torch just above the metal and use the page down key to move the motor down. Then try putting a thicker metal spacer on the metal and move it down with the page down again. If it will with the spacer you have a bind in the Z axis below the higher spacer setting. If it will not at either height your motor may be bad or something is slipping in the drive assembly.

Thanks for the follow up, it will help those who look for a solution for their problem, and also so the different things that can cause problems, that may be slightly hidden from view.
