problems with union

Post by D62 »

I have a monogram I am trying to union the letters in.For some reason the words Kevin & Christina will not union or connect to the inner and outer circle. Works fine with the other letters.Be glad to pay someone for a SVG or DXF file I can cut. Thanks

Ok there are many things causing problems. them main reason you cannot union the kevin & christina it is too large. It needs to be just touching the circle for it to union, Also you can only union to one circle at a time. There are some breaks in the inner circles that also cause problems, there is a small segment between the K and E. and really messed up at the bottom at the date entry.

Here is how I did it.
Step 1 - I opened your svg file in Inkscape and did a screen shot.
Step 2 - Paste screen shot into Paint.net, crop, and convert to jpeg (or bitmap).
Step 3 - Import jpeg into Inkscape.
Step 4 - Path, Trace Bitmap to convert to vector format
Step 5 - Save as dxf.

I forgot to attach is image to show what I said about trying to correct the drawing. David's procedure is an easier way to go about getting the end product than trying to correct errors in the original drawing, good show :Yay
One thing I have found it is better to work with the fill removed from the drawings as you go along as you can see areas that may be causing a problem.
