extreme torch angle to compensate poor cut

Been chasing poor cuts mainly on 10mm (3/8) and had the table serviced etc, all new bearings and no problems found.
To compensate poor cuts we rotated the torch 90 degrees and have angled the torch.

Cant see its right to have such an angle to solve a problem.

All new consumables and clean air.

Will a new torch help or is this another issue?

What amperage are you cutting at, and what is your torch height,and speed?

Swirl ring?
Air leak?
O-ring?

Check all your part numbers and put a new set in (it will cheaper than a new torch (I'm looking for a machine torch if you want to offload it :HaHa )....

65 amp hypertherm setting as instructed and have changed speeds up and down to test. Torch at 1.5mm THC 139v approx

O rings and consumables have all been changed hence why new torch next idea.

I'm guessing that the bevel is only one one side given tilting the torch compensates for the bevel?

If you cut a circle is the bevel similar to a rhombus? (i.e. on two opposite sides).... I presume that this is the case because you mention rotating the torch...

Lol I remember years ago doing the same thing to try and compensate for a bevel cut so your not alone but there is a simple solution.

In my case it was moisture in my compressed air. This moisture would be incinerated by the plasma arc once it fired and would destroy the hole in a brand new nozzle on the first pierce. The hole would go from round to oval instantly and i would never get a good cut from it.

This situation may fool you because your thinking "man I just put a new nozzle and electrode on which is what everyone says to do, what is happening here?" Don't be fooled, inspect your nozzles hole with a magnifying glass and its likely no longer round which will change the air flow and cause the bevel. I bet if you rotate the nozzle in the torch you can change what direction the bevel tapers to.

A good indicator of dirty, moist, and/or oily air is black or grey burnt deposits inside your nozzle and around the electrode shaft. If this is not clean and spotless you need to work on your air supply. These filter/dryers work great shop/dryer_sharpe6760.html

It’s regularly changed and no signs of water or oil in the lines I can see.

15mm cut today with good quality using this torch angle.
New or lightly used consumables don’t seem to make a difference.

Will investigate air quality again.

Have you pulled the torch body apart and checked the internal connections? There is a thread on the site on how to do it.

That is just a filter, it is not an air dryer although it will absorb moisture it will not be sufficient unless you cut for short periods of time once in a while.

How are you determining there is no water or oil in the lines?

Have you inspected the nozzle orifice with a magnifying glass to determine if the hole is out of round or deformed?

To me this is like letting air out of tires on the right side of your truck to correct for a bad wheel alignment so the truck drives straight.

It could be that your torch is damaged but I doubt it.

I was going to get a dryer at some point. Is a desiccant or refrigerant dryer better.
The sharp listed above isnt available in the UK without importing. I can get a refrigerant tomorrow?

How many CFM is needed its a PM65 cutter

I'm in the UK (nr Liverpool)

If it is a hobby desiccant
For business refrigerated dryer.

There other forms of dryer too.... I use a membrane dryer... If I did not I would have plumbed together a dual desiccant dryer with a purge loop maybe.... But time is on my side to play with ideas as a hobby
