I had some cut parts I wanted to have the mill scale and dross removed, did the soak in 50/50 muriatic acid and water trick.
As in the past if I stacked parts over each other places did not get good results. I had used small PVC pipe to lay the parts on so the acid would get under the parts without any problems. Well I had a roll of string trimmer plastic so I cut a bunch of short pieces and laid them on the bottom of the soak tank. Looked good to start, well after some time the string plastic dissolved and went looking for something to attach to. It stuck to the metal parts, the soak tank (plastic) and my nitrite cloves when I fished the parts out. I had to scrape off the stuff with a razor knife and will need to use a wire wheel to finish cleaning off the stuff. It seems like many plastics are not affected by this acid mix but this stuff added more cleaning time then I wanted. Huge Bummer. Beware

Re: Don't do what I did
I'm guessing the trimmer line is not a very durable plastic so it will biodegrade easier.
