PowerMax-30 is underrated.

Post by AnotherDano »

My little 30 is feeling pretty outclassed with all the neat stuff the bigger units can do.

But, by golly, it does what I want it to and I expect that it will until it's relagated to being replaced by a bigger unit on the table.

This isn't something I would do much of, bit it WILL cut 3/8".

I agree. I have the Powermax 45 and I am equally impressed. Most of my cuts are under 1/4 inch but I've tried 1/2 and it was no problem, and all on a 30 amp 1P breaker.
They are incredible little cutters!

Found this video of a 45 cutting 1 inch!!

Very nice for a little 30 amp machine designed for hand cutting only! Have you ever exceeded the duty cycle to the point that it shut down on you for cooling?

No Jim,
I plan to avoid that situation if at al possible. Realizing the limitations of the smaller machines, I don't feel the need to push those limits. I'm gentle with her. 8-)

That cut was only 18", to clean up the edge of a O/A cut on the plate. The fan didn't even come on. 99% of my work is 14ga and if/when I find myself in a hurry, I take a moment to reflect instead of cranking up the speed.

I loves me some Hypertherm!

I have been using a Powermax 30 on my DHC for several years without exceeding the duty cycle. And that is with the cutter running on 115V. Of course 99% of my cutting is on 16ga. The longest single path is 680 inches.

I wired mine for 220v just in case. Almost all of my material is 14ga.

That little machine is a keeper, right George?

FWIW, I'm getting serious about having an ohmic sensor fabbed for the PM-30 for use with the table.
There are not many of us out there using the cutter/table combination and the market won't be large, but I'm tired of fussing with the little copper wire and hose clamp.
