looking for flat-pattern formula

Post by Jason@bc »

I'm wondering if there is any formula for drawing boxes that are tapered,(there is a better name I'm sure,) for exmpe I am building a box with the top 12''x12'' and the bottom 8''x8'' with the depth being 3.5'', 3/16 material, I know in solidworks you can build your box and then flatten it to get the pattern, is there any other program that will do this?

I think it does. I typed in your dimensions into the Trapezoid style. Took PDF into my drawing program and removed the tabs. All shapes needed are there. If you have a break then you could cut less pieces for less welding. May have to adjust dimensions if you are trying to get outside or inside dimension right on.
At least I think this is what you are needing.
