Horse Sculpture pricing?

Post by Nacs Fab »

I have a friend and customer asking about having me make a life sized horse sculpture for his property and I have no idea how to begin pricing this. I plan on starting with the 3D style horses you can see in smaller scale online and will add many other shapes and hand formed metal to give it a realistic feel. How would you begin giving them a budget price for this?

Tell them you have no idea how long it might take, and that you'll bill them hourly at a rate of $xx, or throw out a crazy high number that's sure to cover you. Artsy stuff like that isn't cheap- if you're capable of producing something nice, I'd see it easily being a $10k sculpture

On Jobs like that I tell my client I will bill them for time plus materials. Time at $50 per hour and materials at cost X 1.6.

I would think along the same lines. Possibly more. I’m sure this will be a black hole of time, an awesome project though and if they are willing to pay for your time and skill would be well worthwhile. Good luck!
