need some help

Post by twilliams »

I am cutting 16 guage with a Thermal Dynamics A60, amps at 30, air at 70. I seen to have more slag than I expected. What can I do to cut back on the slag?

What consumables are you using? Just cranking down the AMPS on a cut does not make the cut better it just puts less power per sq inch. Consider a hose with a nozzle. If you simple tunr down the pressure into the hose and the nozzle stays the same then the stream becomes less focused. The kerf does not get more narrow it puts mess power in the same area. If you are using 30A consumables at that setting then you should look at:

The arc gap (height) of the cut as set by the THC. If its cutting at the wrong height you will get slag or even top slag.
The feedrates you are using. Excessive slag on the back side that is fairly easy to remove is indication you are cutting too slow.
