1.25" carbon with Powermax 85

Post by jbc28 »

I finally cut some 1.25 with my 85. I was a little worried beforehand, but I was pleasantly surprised with the results.

Tried 3/4" this weekend for the first time, with limited success. Your cuts look amazing.

That looks fantastic. I would like to cut a root rake for my dozer but put it off because of being worried my self. I see the powermax 85 can handle that thick steel like butter. I also have a powermax 85 can you go into detail on how you stated the cut and what settings were used. I haven't tried anything thicker than 1/2" steel. I don't know how you set up an edge start. Thanks for the photo of the cut. It gives confidence knowing it can be done with the powermax 85. Seeing is believing it don't get any better than that.

Thanks, Gary

I had no idea the powermax 85 could blow through that. Can you tell us what settings you used to get those excellent results. How did you pierce that thick of plate?
Thanks for sharing, Gary

I did use an edge start. I adjusted the pierce point in sheetcam without a lead in. I then zeroed the torch over the area that I wanted to start at. I just used book specs for the cut. If you have sharp corners I think it would be best to loop them.

The Powermax85 is rated to pierce through 3/4". With an edge start it can do an excellent job through 1.5" steel. Nothing difficult about the specifications, simply go to the operators manual, go to the 85 amp cut chart and follow the cut specs exactly as stated. cut height, cut speed, arc voltage, amperage are listed and will work as advertised.
