Hello
I cut a lot of 16 gauge hot rolled steel, I have a Hypertherm 1000 using fine cut tips 40amps, 152imp
I have the machine set up and it cuts very clean with minimal to no dross build
up. My problem is when I go to cut 16 gauge cold rolled steel using the exact same set up it cuts like crap
lots of dross on the back side, hard to grind off, can any body advise me on why it does this and suggest any change's
on my set up to cut better. Thank You

Re: Cold rolled steel cut problem
Your speed is TOO SLOW. You should bump it up at least 50ipm

Re: Cold rolled steel cut problem
I cut 14ga cold rolled with a Hypertherm 65, finecut, 45 amps, 200 ipm. Minimal dross. What I do get chips easily.
I would probably lower amps by 5 and speed up to 225 with 16 ga.

Re: Cold rolled steel cut problem
I cut 14g (hr, CR, p&o) with PM85 at 200ipm, 88 amps, 45a fine cut. Book is 225, 82A. I was having issues not cutting all the way through in spots. Slowing it down seemed to help.
I cut 16g hr today at book specs. 250ipm, 78v, 45a.
