Using Patina on the US Tattered Flag

How are you guys using the patina to finish the flags? I have seen several that look great. Do you have to tape it off? I have been hand painting mine with a brush using no tape just a steady hand. I can do about 3 per hour. I feel its really time consuming and eating into profit even though I have been getting $100 each.

I painted mine base white then taped off the white bars and did the blue starts and the red bars.
Only did one so far, This on is 32" X 18"

I use my torch to heat distress the metal after hitting the whole thing with a flap wheel and welding on some hangers. Then I clear coat front and back. This flag is 36" long.
