Purchasing consumables

Post by wanda »

Where does everyone purchase Hypertherm consumables? I need a good quality place to get mine from, our purchasing department started buying off ebay and I noticed I was going through tips at an alarming rate.. I can sometimes blow a tip out in 5 minutes

I buy from torchking on ebay and have not had any problems.
I would not buy any that say "after market"
if your loosing a tip after 5 minutes there is something wrong!
I'm sure Jim Colt will be asking you come questions about your operations..

I order from Bakers http://www.bakersgas.com/. UPS man should actually be dropping off more electrodes, swirl rings, 45 and 65 amp tips any moment!

I order the bulk electrodes and nozzles from these guys:

http://hyper4less.com/advanced_search_r ... rds=228843

I order the other parts as one or two to keep around just in case.

Hyper4less is actually R & M Welding Products Inc. and they are a long time Hypertherm authorized distributer. There's been some discussion on this in the past and I've checked them out with the powers to be.. Spend 100 bucks or over and the shipping is free but it's slow UPS ground so allow extra time if you are a distance from Kentucky.. As an example I just ordered the bulk kit of 25 220941 nozzles and it came to 4.79 per nozzle shipped.

I'm glad you posted this. I visited their site, and the first thing I thought was "this is sketchy as hell. I'll stick with Bakers.". Lol

Hello

I use both Hyper4less and Bakersgas and have not been disappointed with either. However because I live in a remote location I don't wait until I am out of consumables before I order. So I plan ahead and keep at least one full set of torch spares on hand and order consumables when I get down to the last retail package on hand. Reality space is that lost time costs way more than the time cost of money it takes to keep your torch supplied with consumables and spare parts.

I verified that they were an actual Hypertherm retailer before I ordered. Waiting now for my second order from them. Yes, they send ground slow but I plan ahead.

I've bought mostly from Torchking and Hyper4less and agree with the positive points already posted above. That being said, I can loose a genuine Hypertherm tip with one bad pierce.

I need a lot of nozzles but it's mostly due to the parts I cut have a bunch of holes that require numerous pierces. Jim Colt has many posts on bringing pierce height up slightly and it helps a bunch. For example, I use Jim's suggestion when cutting 1/2" with the slower but slightly better quality 45 amp process of a .2 to .25 pierce height and a 1.2 second pierce delay. Even with the 65 amp process I use on 1/2" most of the time I raise the pierce height up slightly to keep the orifice round longer..

Where do you find the settings for 45A 1/2"? All the cut charts I can find stop at 1/4" on 45A.

Use the powermax 45 for starters.. 17 ipm will probably be too slow for your Powermax 65 using it's 45 amp consumables..

Anywhere between 17 and 20 ipm, cut height at .06", pierce height should be .2" to .25" and pierce delay time should be about 1.2 seconds. This will work with any Hypertherm Powermax45, 65, 85 or 105 (or a Powermax1000, 1250 or 1650 equipped with the Duramax torch) on 1/2" steel plate, using the 45 amp shielded consumables.

Excellent edge smoothness and squareness is the result. Jim Colt Hypertherm
